THE NITE4NITE MISSION

THE NITE4NITE MISSION

In the early days of cinema, before the invention of proper lighting systems and expertly engineered cameras, night scenes were commonly shot during the day...

It was considered too difficult and expensive to film in darkness, thus many clever techniques were employed in order to "fake it". The resulting unnatural "day-for-night" setups became the norm for some time, and they reflected an era in Hollywood when film was primarily produced as cheery escapism. The true-to-life stories were seldom told.

Cut to the 1940s. The war was at hand, and with the technological advances in film and photography, the world now had a front row seat to the brutal imagery. Through these images, people witnessed a new type of realism. It changed them, and it changed the film industry. People wanted truth, and began to value honesty over cheer. They started to appreciate the atmosphere of a real city street over a film set, and from this new awareness rose the true hero in blood soaked armor; Film Noir.

Directors began to use real locations, they confronted real issues, and their stories had real consequences. Through this quest for realism and grit, the concept of "night-for-night" shooting was pioneered. Now the dimly lit street corner at 2am felt real because it was, and through that truth one could better smell the rain on the cobblestones, and feel the cold chill of the night breeze. The images were impactful. They evoked a raw emotion, and conveyed hard and honest truths that the world was ready to open their eyes to.

Nite4Nite Productions makes a commitment to truth through image and storytelling. We aren't afraid to work the late shift, weather the ocean storm, or ask the tough questions to have our voices heard. We don't sacrifice atmosphere for budget, and we strive to create honest work. With the new age of digital film we believe that no story is too difficult to tell, and no moment is too complex to capture. We hope to create content that resonates, reflects, and exposes new inner truths that bring about thoughtful discussion and positive change. We hope you'll join us on this mission, and we look forward to working with you.
